for District 57 Illinois State Representative
MEET TRACY

Tracy Katz Muhl
Tracy Katz Muhl grew up and attended public school in Northbrook. She is a working mom and attorney. She is also a dedicated advocate with a proven track record of community involvement, a commitment to innovative solutions, and a deep understanding of the issues facing our state. After earning her undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and a law degree from the University of Chicago, Tracy joined a respected, midsize Chicago law firm and started working with Equality Illinois and Lambda Legal, advocating for the LGBTQ+ community and participating in efforts to lobby for civil unions. For the last 20 years, she has practiced law with Fox, Swibel, Levin & Carroll, LLP in Chicago. As a Democratic Committeeperson, school board president, gun violence prevention advocate, and a grassroots organizer, Tracy has listened to, coordinated and amplified the varied voices of the community to make real change.
As District 28 School Board President, she led the implementation of free, full-day kindergarten, new cost-efficient and high quality district-sponsored programs for special needs students, and thoughtfully navigated the pandemic by offering families the option of either full time in person instruction or joining the district’s unique remote learning academy. The results of her time on the board saw notable learning gains at a time when other districts were struggling with learning loss. As the twice-elected Northfield Township Democratic Committeeperson, Tracy has built countless strong relationships with elected officials at all levels of government.
Tracy is a longtime and active member of Moms Demand Action, and Youth Services of Glenview-Northbrook (formerly Links/Angles) and a strong supporter of Planned Parenthood and Personal PAC. Tracy has a vision for progress for the 57th district. She envisions an Illinois that thrives economically, prioritizes human rights, and provides equitable access to education for all its residents.
CAMPAIGN ISSUES
Tracy Katz Muhl will fight for the interests and values of this community as your representative in Springfield, and her track record of local leadership and advocacy stands as testament to that dedication.
Tracy has a long track record of action and activism on behalf of historically marginalized people. She has worked with several organizations to protect the rights of people in the LQBTQ+ community, including Pride Youth, Lambda Legal and Equality Illinois.
Tracy held a leadership role with Moms Demand Action, lobbied state and local governments to strengthen assault weapons laws, and spoke at rallies and marches across the community in response to unnecessary death and destruction caused by gun violence. She will continue to push for stronger laws and enforcement to reduce the rate of devastating loss.
As a former school board President and graduate of the Northbrook public schools, Tracy understands the importance of a strong public education system. During her time on the School Board she led the successful effort to implement full-day kindergarten in the district. Her leadership alongside the administration also allowed the district’s schools to stay open for full-day learning throughout the 2020-2021 school year – something very few districts in Cook County accomplished in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic – resulting in test scores increasing despite the difficult circumstances and recognition from the State Board of Education. Tracy believes it is critical to properly fund our public schools and set them up for the success of students, teachers, and administrators.
Tracy recognizes the importance of mental health, and ensuring the right supports are available to all. Comprehensive care includes cost-effective community counseling programs, like at Youth Services, and specialized services like for addiction and recovery. Tracy proudly supported zoning changes to allow expanded recovery services for young people in their home communities.Tracy is 100% pro-choice and a fierce advocate for women in the community. She believes it is important to enshrine equal rights and access to care in Illinois.
